How to check a chiropractor's license

Every state licenses chiropractors. Here is how to check one in about a minute, with the official lookup for all 50 states and DC.

The short answer

Find your state below, open the board’s official lookup, search the chiropractor’s name and check that the license status is active. It takes about a minute.

Step by step

  1. Get the chiropractor’s full name – from the practice’s website, or ask the practice for the name and license number.
  2. Open your state’s lookup from the table below. Use the board’s own site, not a third-party “verification” service.
  3. Search the name and choose the chiropractic license type if the lookup asks.
  4. Check the status. “Active” or “clear” means the chiropractor may practice. Expired, inactive, suspended, revoked or on probation means you should ask questions first.
  5. Look for public actions. Many lookups show any discipline or public orders against the license.

Where we checked for you

In Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, Oklahoma and Washington, we checked every chiropractor named at the practices we list against the state’s own license records in October 2026. Those listings say “License active”. Licenses can change, so it is still worth a look before you book.

Questions

What does DC after a name mean?

Doctor of Chiropractic – the degree chiropractors earn from a chiropractic college. The degree alone is not permission to practice: the chiropractor also needs a license from the state where they work.

Is a license from another state enough?

No. A chiropractor needs a license from the state where the office is. A chiropractor near a state line may hold licenses in two states.

What if I cannot find the chiropractor on the lookup?

Try the full legal name, a maiden or married name, or search by last name only. If you still cannot find them, ask the practice for the license number, or call the board.

Does a license mean a chiropractor is right for me?

No. A license means the state allows them to practice. It does not tell you about their approach, costs or how they work. Ask the practice your questions before you book.

Board names and lookups were checked on official state sources in October 2026. Some states move their lookups; if a link breaks, search for the state’s board of chiropractic examiners.
